Job Summary
The Department of Surgery at Southern Illinois University (SIU) School of Medicine is seeking a fellowship-trained, forward-thinking Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon to join our expanding faculty at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. This is a premier academic, employed position reporting directly to the Chair of Orthopedic Surgery, Michaela Schneiderbauer, MD. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing a robust pediatric orthopedic and spine program, delivering exceptional clinical care, mentoring the next generation of physicians, and engaging in impactful clinical or basic science research.
Description & Core Responsibilities
As a faculty member at SIU Medicine, you will join a highly collaborative, innovative medical ecosystem. This dual-hospital clinical model maximizes regional outreach and patient volume while preserving dedicated time for academic pursuits.
- Maintain a vibrant pediatric orthopedic surgery practice, with privileges at two leading regional institutions: Springfield Memorial Hospital and HSHS St. John’s Hospital (including HSHS St. John’s Children’s Hospital).
- Teach, mentor, and supervise medical students and orthopedic surgery residents within SIU’s internationally recognized medical education curriculum.
- Engage in independent or collaborative clinical and/or basic science research. Faculty have full access to the cutting-edge Memorial Learning Center and the SIU Surgical Skills Training Center to foster bioskills training and innovation.
- Contribute actively to the strategic expansion and regional prominence of the academic Orthopedic Surgery program across Central and Southern Illinois.
Requirements
- MD, DO, or equivalent alternate education medical pathway.
- Completed an accredited Fellowship in Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery.
- Board-certified or Board-eligible in Orthopedic Surgery.
- Licensed or eligible for an unrestricted medical license in the State of Illinois.
- A passion for clinical teaching, a strong commitment to academic medicine, and a sensitivity to the unique healthcare needs of underrepresented minority and diverse populations.
- This is a security-sensitive position; pre-employment background screenings are required.
