Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is seeking a fellowship-trained, board-certified or board-eligible Pediatric Sports Medicine Surgeon to join our top-ranked, globally recognized Orthopedics and Sports Medicine program. As a vital member of a high-volume clinical and academic powerhouse, you will have the opportunity to build a premier pediatric sports medicine and trauma practice while contributing to multi-specialty collaborations, research initiatives, and trainee education. This position includes clinical care, call responsibilities, and robust programmatic support.
Description
Step into a role with the highest-ranked pediatric orthopedic program in the Southeast. Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta operates a massive, highly integrated orthopedic service line backed by a multi-disciplinary team consisting of 15 surgeons, 10 non-operative physicians, 24 advanced practice providers (APPs), and an extensive team of dedicated sports physical therapists and outreach athletic trainers.
In this position, you will plan, implement, and evaluate high-quality medical and surgical care for children and adolescents navigating sports-related injuries and orthopedic trauma. You will enjoy a highly collaborative environment, partnering with doctors, nurses, and clinicians across various specialized programs including our Scoliosis and Spine Program, Hip Program, Concussion Program, and Hand and Upper Extremity Program.
Beyond clinical excellence, our institution is deeply rooted in research. With over a century of orthopedic expertise, our team actively designs and executes studies that lead to measurable, real-world patient outcomes, such as lower infection rates and shorter hospital stays than national averages. You will be expected to incorporate quality improvement and research findings into your practice while actively training and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows.
Requirements
Education & Training
- Graduate of an accredited, four-year medical school (MD or DO).
- Graduate of an accredited, post-graduate residency program in Orthopedic Surgery.
- Completion of an accredited fellowship program in both Sports Medicine and Pediatric Orthopedics.
Certifications & Licensure
- Board Certified or Board Eligible (BC/BE) in Orthopedic Surgery.
- Licensed (or eligible to obtain licensure) to practice medicine in the State of Georgia.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is required.
- Valid and current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated clinical experience within pediatric orthopedics and sports medicine.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build trust with young patients and their families.
- Strong collaborative spirit, showing adaptability, listening skills, and human relations proficiency within a multi-disciplinary team setting.
- Meets all eligibility requirements for credentialing as part of the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Professional Staff.
Job Responsibilities
- Direct Patient Care: Provide comprehensive clinical and surgical patient care within the sports medicine and trauma clinical areas, strictly complying with Professional Staff Bylaws, rules, regulations, and hospital policies.
- Call Responsibility: Participate actively in the orthopedic call rotation and handle pediatric trauma cases.
- Academic & Trainee Education: Educate, mentor, and assist medical trainees (residents and fellows) with clinical decision-making and surgical techniques.
- Research & Quality Improvement: Participate in clinical research and incorporate evidence-based quality improvement findings into everyday patient care.
- Documentation Excellence: Complete necessary medical records and authenticated reports of all physician services rendered in an accurate, thorough, and timely manner to facilitate optimal patient care and appropriate reimbursement.
- Professional Development: Participate in staff meetings, administrative activities, and continuing medical education initiatives to support the overall operations of the clinical area.
