SSM Health is seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible General Orthopedic Surgeon to join and help expand orthopedic services in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Located just 30 minutes outside of Oklahoma City, this position offers an exceptional opportunity to build a high-volume, rewarding practice from the ground up in a highly respected, physician-friendly community. You will step into a growing service line with a robust, built-in primary care referral network, a standalone clinic, and light call rotation.

Job Description & Scope of Practice

As an employed physician with SSM Health, you will join a growing service line that currently features one full-time, sports medicine fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon. This role is ideal for an ambitious surgeon who wants to scale a practice quickly without the burden of an existing patient panel holding them back.

  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday with built-in flexibility.
  • Practice Mix: Approximately 80% outpatient clinic / 20% surgical.
  • Case Volume: Anticipated 5–7 procedures per week while building; up to 20+ clinic patients per day (2–3 days per week).
  • Clinical Spectrum: Broad general orthopedics, including fractures, knees, elbows, and Emergency Department consults. Candidates with an interest or experience in joint replacements and revisions will find an excellent environment to utilize those skills.
  • Surgical Facilities: Five large, modern Operating Rooms with dedicated time from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
  • Call Schedule: Relatively light, averaging approximately 7 days per month.

 

State-of-the-Art Facilities & Dedicated Support

  • Standalone Clinic: Practice out of a modern orthopedic clinic located directly across the street from the main hospital, featuring 12 exam rooms and on-site X-ray.
  • Physical Therapy: Seamless continuity of care with two dedicated SSM physical therapy clinics (one on the main hospital campus, and one 3–4 miles away at an outpatient satellite clinic).
  • Referral Base: An established, highly collaborative SSM Health regional provider network ensuring a steady stream of internal patient referrals.

 

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited program.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Orthopedic Surgery Residency program.
  • Board Certified (BC) or Board Eligible (BE) in Orthopedic Surgery.
  • Eligible for an unrestricted medical license in the State of Oklahoma.
